Knotweed, Roundup and Native Plants

Hi there planting community. We have recently purchased a home in Harrison along a slow moving river. Unfortunately knotweed was included. We have been advised to treat the knotweed by injecting with round up. We are going to wait until our masons and leafcutters are done and then begin treating. I would also like to plant some native species in our yard - especially edible plants for the small creatures that frequent the yard. Would it be advisable to wait to plant anything new until the knotweed has been taken care of? Thank-you!

 

I wouldn't plant anything within the root zone of the knotweed--but that should be relatively close to the patch of it (because if it's rooted, it'll emerge as stems quickly).

 

Note that glyphosate is to be kept away from rivers and streams as it retains its recognizable composition as much as a mile downstream.
