These two plants are growing in my garden and I don't remember them from last year, so I assume they are weeds. The second one is starting two show white flowers.

Does anybody know what they are?
    Thanks

The first is one of the common annual weedy knotweeds. People ask about these on the internet rather often. The other looks like an obedient plant.

Ron, you may be talking about japanese knotweed (as common knotweed is a prostrate plant and mine isn't) but it does not look like it either. The plant I have has different leaf shape from the japanese knotweed. Also, the panicles in my plant have what look like round pinkish flowers (unless they haven't bloomed yet). Any other possibility?

The second plant does look as an obedient plant. Thanks

Yes, it looks like Polygonum pensylvanicum. By the way, it belongs to the same species as the common knotweed (Polygonum arenastrum), so this is the plant that Ron B was talking about.

    Thanks to both.
