Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm fairly new to gardening.

First thing first I know I can't entirely grow an outdoor plant inside. Well, now I know. I wanted to give for christmas a tree (amelanchier x grandiflora 'Autumn Brillance') and the receiver cannot plant it outside.

Can I just put it in a pot, cut the branches so it doesn't grow too big, and put it outside from spring to just long enough so it could enter in its dormant state? Is the dormant state's end triggered by temperature (like if I bring the tree indoor in mid-novembre, will it bloom in december because of the raised temperature)? If so, the receiver has a cool cellar, will it be enough to keep it in dormant state? I'm open to all suggestion, but I'm very fond of giving that amelanchier, it has the qualities that makes it a perfect gift to the receiver.

    Thanks all!
