Check this out..... Went out hunting for our native Polypodium scouleri which is often found along the coast, growing in the burls on the sitka spruce.
What I found to be very interesting is the bark on the tree in the middle foreground. It looks like Sitka Spruce bark above the burl but more like Western Hemlock bark below.
That fern is something I enjoy seeing on the redwood burls while exploring down that way. Almost went to the Oympic National Forest last December, but the weather didn't fit my free time. Hopefully April or May works out. The spot in your photo must feel unique to be at the first hour of morning or the last hour of daylight. : - )
