There are several of these in my garden. I think that they were there last year too. I assume that it is a weed but perhaps I have just forgotten planting it and it is about to burst into glorious life. Before it joins the compost bin, does anyone know what it is?

I find this in my garden too from time to time. I think it is a nutsedge but, if so, I don't know which. You could let it bloom in the interests of identification but that might risk allowing it to spread seeds.
