Acer palmatum 'Red Spider'

A Canadian linearilobum. This tree had a very nice showing this spring as it was cooler and wetter than normal here. Photo taken 05/01/05.

One of my first linearilobums (only four months with me). I kept it in shade all time, but anyway, after loosing all its leaves (completely wilted/fried due the characteristic hot summer here); two weeks ago, it started to send a second flush of leaves, (just in time for fall season). Pretty amazing for me. Now I'm enjoying new sprouts in almost all JMs, but this cultivar in particular has its well deserved "15 minutes of glory" right now. Here some pics.

I am looking for more info on where this cultivar originated. Many people say that this plant came from Canada. In the 1993 Catalog for Red Maple Nursery Red Spider is listed as a Dick Wolff introduction. Any info would be helpful.
