12" monkey puzzle problem

Discussion in 'Araucariaceae' started by Unregistered, Oct 10, 2003.

  1. Hi. I am worried about my baby tree. I purchased it the first weekend of September. It is ~12" tall and in a pot on my kitchen counter. Over the past few weeks I have noticed that the truck is turning brown and it is creeping up. The little spiny needles(?) have just a touch of yellow on their tips.

There also seems to be a bit of white mold growing on the top of the soil but it is not overly damp.

What can I do? Is this a soil issue? pot issue?

Please help. I saw my first Monkey Puzzle tree at the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, WA and bought this little guy in Olympia, WA.

    Thanks,
    Chrissie

I would guess that the lack of light is causing the tissues to break down. Araucaria araucana (monkey puzzle) is a plant that requires full sun (outdoor conditions).
