Nina Shoroplova is a tree enthusiast, historian, researcher, and author. Her fifth book will be published by Heritage House on May 12: Legacy of Trees: Purposeful Wandering in Vancouver's Stanley Park. She loves walking and, with world-famous Stanley Park just three city blocks away, it seems natural that she should write about the legacy of Stanley Park’s trees.
Walking out of her building into the lane and looking west, Nina sees a coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) towering above all the other trees on the horizon. It’s growing in a little patch of the park that Vancouver Park Board staff cleaned up in recent years. When she first moved to Vancouver’s West End in 1992, that patch was overrun with blackberry bushes.
A professional member of the Canadian Authors Association and a member of Stanley Park Ecology Society, Shoroplova spends her days writing her own books, editing the books of others, walking Stanley Park, and taking photographs of trees and plants in every season.Interact
