BSc Biology, specialisation Ecology (UBC 1998); minor (unaccredited) Maths (UBC); BEd Secondary Science and Maths (UBC 2000); Science Diploma (Kwantlen, 1995); Poet; Artist; Painter and self-taught Carpenter/Joiner and bookbinder/restorer. Also amateur Historian. Despite all those apparent accomplishments, I think the ones I am most proud of are (a) being able to work longer and harder than guys ten years younger than me in the fishing industry, such that, I earned the nickname "Iceman" for my ability to work all night long in -30 conditions shovelling ice with no shirt on! (b) In the three and a half years I lived in Mon Desir, Sandy Lane, L'Islet, St Sampsons, Guernsey, UK, I created, on grounds neglected for more than 40 years and covered with gravel, gardens that, before I was even finished, prompted someone from the National Association for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens to come out to see me for a little tour, after which he wanted to put my garden on a walking tour, which, sadly, never came about for reasons beyond my control. Even more depressing, my landlord destroyed everything I had created after I moved back to BC. (He even pulled down the old Victorian Greenhouse I had restored.) Looking at it via satellite viewing shows that he pulled down and destroyed everything and turned the whole place into an industrial yard covered in gravel or tarmac.

Gardening, landscaping, horticulture, hiking and outdoor activities, cycling for recreation and as a means of transportation, keen environmentalist tempered by a strong science background, History buff, collector of antique handtools and books, etc
