aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! My poor cactus is turning brown! He is a barrel cactus named chancie! we have had him for 3 months he is 19cms tall. His spines from the base to top have started to turn brown! why is this and what can do to stop this from happening, i dont want him to die, he is the least disrupptive person in our family! any help muchley appreciated!
If the cactus is turning soft, then it is being watered too much. I leave mine outside except for the winter and the only water it gets is from the rain. It is thriving and 23+ years old. If you can post a picture, that would help. I’m no expert; this is just in my opinion. Plus they need lots of sunshine. Red
It looks great to me. Unless there is softness/blackening at the base it is perfactly fine. Some browning of the spines at the base is totally normal. Michael
ok thanks, is there any reason it would have come on all of a sudden? can i do anything to get them back to yellow? it makes him look unhealthy!
No, I don't think there is anything you can do to fix it. Perhaps the move to your house is what brought in on, but it's more likely that you "suddenly" noticed it.
