That's a cracking maple, I've added it to my want list. Looks quite unique! I also like the Aureum peeking through the hostas, have ye no slugs, lol? They're terrible here this year, making up for the dry of last year, I suppose. They've denuded several seedlings, though I think they will mostly recover.

Here are some more spring maples. 'Kuro hime' is an unusual looking maple, but I had a really hard time capturing it in the 3 pics. There's a real variety of colors across the leaves. I took a leaf closeup of "Suffer for Fashion", to show the 9 deep lobes with the indented margins, practically circular. This A. campbellii is a collection from Vietnam, I love the wide leaves. But it was badly damaged by the drought last year, so, wait-and-see. The seedling from Koishikawa, the park in Tokyo that @opusoculi Pierre recommended I visit, also has many colors that aren't easy to photograph. (Thanks Pierre, what a marvelous park!) 'Butterfly' I removed from the garden after last year, It suffered a lot in the drought, but will recover. Although it is meant to take a lot of sun, I'll replant in a shadier place. "Lemonade" is a very lemony colored cappadocicum from the seed lot I collected at the Intermarché (a large supermarket) parking lot, where they have planted a large line of 'Aureum'. Many of the seedlings are similar to Aureum, this is the most distinct, a really lemony color closer to Princeton Gold than to Aureum. We'll see how it does once big enough to graft, but for now I like it a lot.

    Late afternoon pics.

'Tsuma gaki' : it was in almost full shade last year, yet got leaf-spot again. I put it in a sunnier place (sun from 9 to 15), and it already looks as if it thought it was autumn ! It's abit like "difficult children", you like them best in spite of all... ;^)
May 6th (still in the shade), and today :

    acerp-tsuma-gaki_230506a.jpg acerp-tsuma-gaki_230521a.jpg

'Orange Dream'. This one too was in the shade last year, and gets more sun now and is already showing some leaf spot. The exposure to the sun is probably not the only reason why :

    acerp_orangedream00_230521a.jpg

'Beni hagoromo', not so "beni" any longer, except the leaves at the bottom :

    acerp-benihag02_230521a.jpg acerp-benihag02_230521b.jpg

'Flavescens' that never really flavesced, but, all right, looks OK anyway :

    acerp-flavescens_230521a.jpg

'Shishigashira' and 'Koto hime' look very similar, but Kh has more crispy leaves and even shorter internodes (I'll take a photo of the two "full size" one of these days) :

    acerp-shishi_230521a.jpg acerp-koto-hime_230521a.jpg

'Beni komachi' and 'Emerald Lace' :

    acerp-beni-komachi00_230521a.jpg

One of my favourite "What a mess!" place in the garden jungle :

    jardin_230521a.jpg

'Jerre Schwartz' has never disappointed me...

Ach.. ! I wish someone would give us a recipe to keep it healthy from Spring to Autumn. Some nurserie sell "big" specimens, so it should be done...

I added some 4-4-8 + 3% MgO, fertilizer for citrus trees. I thought the high potassium would help it cope with hot, dry weather, and the magnesium would help it recover some green.

Still searching for the best combo, soil, sun exposure, etc.

Sone pics..you can see the spots on the second photo..seem to be on the upper most leaves.

This plant has gone from burn pile with only a few buds on each limb to 7foot wide in 3 years..I’ve not done much to it either other than reporting it..so no credit to me all credit to TG

This sugar maple is leafing out EXTREMELY late, maybe chilling requirements havent been satisfied?

Also it remained completely dormant, thought it was dead, until i decided to spray gibberellic acid on it. a few buds decided to wake up.

Here's what Tsuma gaki looks like at our place. It's in full sun most of the day, but gets a little shade around noon. Still very yellow, though a few leaves are starting to show sun damage. We have full sun and hot in the forecast, oh joy, so it will look pretty bad in a few weeks. I took these yesterday on 22/5

    Nice!
Mine is a bit hidden by other trees, in the shade, but it's also showing some signs of summer colour.

EDIT : mine is A. circinatum 'Burgundy Jewel', which, as the name tells, is supposed to have more burgundy colours.
    I took a photo a few minutes ago :

Well, we're not quite entirely there, but it feels like we're ending the spring season and moving into summer: the pentaphyllums are just leafing out, as is Father Girard's maple, one of the last to burst into leaf. Schneider's maple is in full flower, which will probably lead to a lot of hybrid seed, as it's earlier than usual. Who knows, maybe something interesting! Here's more photos from the last 5 days, starting with @wcutler 's maple 'Wendy', always fascinating but hard to capture!

Among some others, the (still) mystery tree from Uppsala botanical garden, waiting for flowers to help identify; a couple last views of Orange Parfait going into the olive greens of summer; the rare and lovely A. tenellum still flowering, a shot of the garden softening into summer; and the fabulous red new leaves of the Nagaland A. sterculiaceum.

Ha-ha. I'd rather have something I'd be able to recognize. That's definitely not the case with this one. The new shiny burnt-sienna coloured A. sterculiaceum would be more like it. That's pretty special.

As we approach June, the colours are going towards their Summer show now. But Spring is not over just yet. So here are a few in the morning sunshine in my garden.
I've included some weeping palmates for @Margot 'Ryusen', 'Cascade Gold' and 'Cascade Ruby'

It's Bank Holiday Monday here in the UK, and I think it's now transition to Summer maples. But I thought I would post a few that are getting big in my garden this Spring.

Strong winds and warm sunshine the last couple of days here in Southern England. Drying everything out far too quickly. So before the leaves start to show some stress, here are a few more of mine this morning that are in training bonsai pots.
