I think this one deserves it's own thread although unfortunately I don't have much information about it apart from it does differ to the standard KNO.
    Quote from Pat at Hippopottering
"Yes Yamato koto no ito is different. When put in full sun it is orange in summer. It's a really nice tree. The dwarf version of koto no ito is koto ito komachi and both of the above are quite rare compared to koto no ito."
It does look slightly different to my KNO at the moment, leaves seem less serrated and some have a red tip, anyway I think it's a lovely shape and I've placed it in full sun to see what happens.

Hopefully I'll be able to post a few photos of a more colourful specimen later, just waiting to see if I can borrow some.

Saw this one for sale at Hippo and was intrigued. It will be interesting to watch and hear your reports on this N. Looks a very healthy little acquisition.

Still waiting on the photo permission so here's a quick snap to show the leaves starting to gain a bit of colour.

Am I right in guessing this one should be titled:
    Acer palmatum 'Yamato Koto-no-ito'
to fit in with the other threads in the forum?

Sorry I didn't know I needed to add the Acer Palmatum part of the name as it was in the AP Cultivar photos section, but I will if you want?
    Edit
    Title altered

Thanks! I guess it isn't essential, but it makes it thread easier for others to find, if they're all titled in the same consistent style.

Yano's "Book For Maples" describes it thus:
Note: Yano often describes brown when we in the west would more likely say red or some form of reddish brown.

Also, most likely a cultivar of Acer amoenum... but that is a can of worms I do not want to open... at least 50% of the cultivars in the Acer palmatum section are now included in A. amoenum or A.amoenum var. matsumurae...

Yamato KNO that gets a lot of sun next to KNO that is in a shadier spot.

And so well displayed with that background. Might even give your Fairy hair a run for it's money.
