2nd May 2021 and just as some of my family are going to visit for a BBQ, ( only 4 allowed atm in the UK ), and It will be the first partial gathering in over a year, my Starfish has come out to greet them.

27th May 2021 and now my Starfish is looking it's best. Quite a bit of talk these last couple of days on the forum about this cultivar not displaying the tell tell leaf pattern in an area in the US, but as can be seen, mine here in Southern England does.

1st July 2021 and we are well into Summer colours now. The very deep reds are looking their best IMO with that hint of green.

5th April 2022 and one of my families favourites, 'Starfish' is putting out a lot of leaves this season. I'm hoping for a good year with this one.

Mine is about to "take shape". When the leaves bud out, they look a lot like a plain 'Atropurpureum'.
It's much later than 'Tompenburg' to which it ressembles a lot :

Agreed Alain, but I think Starfish is just that little bit darker as the season progresses. Well it is here,

You may be right, but there are so many differences considering the age of the tree, the rootsock if it's grafted, the soil, etc.

My 'Trompenburg' is much darker than my 'Starfish' --- so far...

Is there a difference between a Peve Starfish and plain old Starfish?

Good morning N. No not at all. It should always be called Peve Starfish. It's just that some sellers have left out the Peve.

Thanks to N @D97x7 in highlighting Peve Starfish and Starfish, I have amalgamated the two threads to read Peve Starfish.

Right : (Peve) Starfish. It's true it gets darker later.
Left : Trompenburg. As the season progresses, the leaves tend to become more flat. And since I kept it in a mostly shaded place, it turned bronze green last year, while 'Starfish', which was in a much sunnier place, remained dark red. Two of today's pics :

8th May 2022 and as this was talked about the last couple of days, I thought I would share a photo. The leaves are being attacked, but still nice.

'Starfish' still has curled in lobes and shows a burgundy (?) colour :

    acerp-starfish_220624a.jpg

I might put it in a shadier place...
