    Found this seedling among some Korean maple liners that I ordered this spring. Nice dark green leaves. Lighter colored seedlings are A. palmatum species

    Seedlings are worth growing on if they attract the eye.
    Often their true characteristics don’t emerge for 2 to 3 years.
    It’s not all about the colour either, sometimes it’s their form, growth habit which can draw the eye.

    Here’s one of mine I’ve kept as it spreads rather than reaching for the sky, somewhat like a dissectum F388D5BA-D077-4228-9236-DD5EF1460E25.jpeg 53610F1C-C793-4105-A9F9-3AEFBB133DF6.jpeg 27EA27C5-7D9E-4313-B15C-9D7C34AAC74C.jpeg 6EFBBEBB-6BAB-439A-9B8A-5CA7F977E7BF.jpeg .

    @LoverOfMaples
    Yes I got my plugs and bare root seedlings from Heritage.
    The plugs did fine. The Korean maples were bare root and only 8 or so out of 25 leafed out.
    I probably will not get bare root again

    However the one I posted picture of is so distinct that I consider the losses more than compensated for. LOL

    Seeds are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get...

    @LoverOfMaples That is interesting. I haven't seen a lot of Korean maples locally. All I have seen were like the one on the right.
    Hybridization is fascinating.

    I am in agreement with the hybrid theory of @LoverOfMaples. Left hand Korean maple seedling definitely looks like the mother was knocked up by palmatum pollen.
