Wonderful, but so sad you no longer have it N. What happened?

I'm not sure, I've lost three in that particular bed over the years, one a beautiful Shishigashira, there's a large bamboo growing about eight foot away that I suspect may have had something to do with it, or it is just a too exposed position, shame really as they both grew beautifully for a few years and then just didn't make it through a winter.

That would be my thoughts on their demise N. They really starve the soil of water. And so very competitive and as we know maples don't do well with competitors.
I do hope you get another Ariadne N. It is an amazing maple.

15th May 2022 and I don't think there are many cultivars that can give as much pleasure in a garden than Ariadne. Here is mine this morning fully open now.

Here goes, my first post. Just got this Ariadne recently. I was drawn to it early on in my plant hunting. I love the leaves. I find this forum extremely useful in my research. Cheers.

Good morning @GardenCycles and welcome to the maples forum, you couldn't start with a better cultivar on the forum than Ariadne, it is up there with the very best IMO. Yours looks wonderful.

10th December 2022 and a couple of Winter shots of my Ariadne. Went down to -7°c last night. Getting close to the limit for maples in pots.

It's a good thing its Celsius and not Fahrenheit as your Ariadne would be dead. The roots of maples can die and will die at 16 degrees F. Twenty years ago I went for a 2 week vacation in Hawaii and an artic cold front moved into Vancouver, WA. USA and it dropped to 7 degrees and stayed there for 48 hours. I lost 200 large maples in 5-10 gallon containers. You can't tell they are dead until they don't bud-out in the spring. Live and learn. Our temps will be in the low 20s this week which is OK so far as they are dormant. Good luck in the UK.

Totally agree, it never gets below -5 degrees c here in the South of England as a rule, so I'm hoping that's the worst this Winter. But extremes have hit my trees already this year. I lost around 30 due to the heat and drought this Summer.
But to lose 200 must have been soul destroying for you.
Hope your trees get through this Winter OK. Fingers crossed for us all, both sides of the pond.
    Have a lovely Christmas
