After a week of repeated fox incursions and sub-zero temperatures, these are no longer little trees: these are warriors.

Fenna, Beni Otake, Clarabell, Hupps Red Willow:

Itaya Momiji, Kocho no Mai, Searles Variegated, Koto no Ito:

Nishiki no Murasaki, Pixie, Red Dawn, Sawa Chidori:

I think Cascade Gold is my favourite child this year -- or certainly, it is at this point in Spring. Spamming commence:

After I was done clearing up one of the fox-messes, it occurred to me that I could move some trees around and make another space for the littlest and most delicate saplings protected from both sun and wind. Below, nursery No.1, the (new!) nursery No.2, and my Full Sun/Partial Shade grouping x2:

@Xi-feng your posting has certainly put a smile on my face. You must be so pleased every time you open your door to see all these delights.

Back outside again, hopefully we've finished with frost for this season, although I must say the ones in the ground don't seem to have been damaged by the recent cold snap so I'm probably over fretting.

Seedlings. I think the one in the foreground (red leaves) is Acer sinense, but I'm not sure :

Some 4, or even 5 years old : in spite of my trying to lable, list, etc. my trees, most of the time I lose the tags...

Wow, so many nice photos! I envy you all at the moment, your maples have already well leafed out, mine are just starting... Especially you @D97x7 , it looks like you don't live too far away, yet your trees are already amazing! :)

We have rain forecast here today, which is very much needed. It's been quite dry so my trees will enjoy some moisture. Took these first thing before the clouds rolled in.

    Splendid !

Apparently, the climate in Oregon at the moment is more "maple-friendly" than in some parts of Northern Europe...

Isn't it funny how we all feel someone else is getting better weather and conditions than we are. But I have to say, those maples of G @wind-borne look extremely happy.

The problem we're having is this kind of "yoyo" weather : mild weather, then extreme cold, dry weather, then floodings.

All are the consequences of global warming. Or whatever one can call, or re-paint it to try and ignore it.

    Yo yo blues...

'Yoyo' weather is a very good way of describing what we are going through these days.

Our weather forecasters do the yo yo about every 15 minutes.

I posted earlier when the forecast was for 21˚ tomorrow, which is hotter than our average summer days.
Right after I posted they dropped the high to 19˚ so I deleted my post.
Just checked again and is back to 21˚ for tomorrow, then back to normal spring showers.

Ahhh, Captain Beefheart, thanks for posting. Great memories from my... tender teens... ;0)

I have the LP "We're only in it for the money" somewhere in the basement. My son just phoned me, on his day off he helped a shopkeeper to "classify his stock", whatever you call it, and got 3 LPs, Jimmy Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival and a local punk band, worth 90€. I told him that when I go to the house for old disabled people, he'll make a fortune selling the 2.50 metres collection I have in the garage <LOL>

    21° F is only 8°C here.

After a long period of dry, warm weather and wind from the Sahara, followed by a short episode of snow and unusual low temperatures (the lowest since 1947), we're going to have some rain, and temperatures between 10°C at night and 14°C in the afternoon (50 to 54.2 in Frenheit), but again -2°C (28.4°F) on Sunday night.....

    weather0407.jpg

I don't worry too much though : I live in town, where temps are usually something like 2° above the predicted temperatures in the coldest places in my garden. Fingers crossed...

@wind-borne I'm headed to Portland now! Hopefully I'll get to checkout a few nurseries if the weather permit.

What you are seeing in graph is the high/low in C˚
    When in Rome do as

    21˚F = -6˚C
    21˚C = 70˚F

@LoverOfMaples, a little rain doesn't put the damper on anything, depends mostly on wind.
Haven't been to any Portland nurseries(~165 miles away), so no recommendations. Have fun!

    Quite true...

    "
    21˚F = -6˚C
    21˚C = 70˚F

    "

Oops. I must have mixed things up.
21˚F is not even the coldest we had here this winter.

These differences in measurement units are a bit confusing. It's much easier with units of length : 1 inch is 2.54 cm, so 4 inches are about 10 cm. 1 foot is 30.48cm, so 3 feet are about 91 cm, etc., not that much of a problem.
But to convert Farenheit degrees into Celsius degrees, that's :

    [°C] = ([°F] - 32) x 5/9
    [°F] = [°C] x 9/5 + 32

    Er... ^^

Sorry, I can't divide by five ninth a number from which I substracted 32 without a pen, a piece of paper and some concentration. Or use the web, because that's all Greek to me.

    0°C : when water freezes
100°C : when water boils, easy peasy

    32°F
    212°F

    Lemon squeezy ??? <LOL>

A nice start to the day here in Southern England, but the wind is getting up later. Had some rain through the night, so I thought some reds looked quite nice to post today.
