Hi all, I am following this thread because I love the cultivar. Anne Irene may have bad press in the EU, but not so far for me. I don't recommend afternoon sun for Anne Irene or for any light colored maple so burning is not an issue with just morning sun. Reobuk - I love your photo and I would like to use it on my website with your approval.

I put mine in the ground last fall. I can't wait to see what it becomes.

OK then, let's use a VPN.

Now that I'm supposed to be in Toronto, it works ! I'll come back later, I'm on my way to post a parcel with seedlings...

Hi all. Thank you Roebuck for your permission to use your photos. I would like to give you credit for the photos so I need your full name or if you prefer I can use Roebuck from West Yorkshire, England. My website is eastforknursery.com - however I sell and ship to the US only. Anyone can look, but as a one woman small Japanese Maple Nursery I do not have the necessary permits to export my maples outside the US. I have 3 greenhouses and I grow all my maples in containers. I do not graft, rather I buy liners and repot them into 1 gallons or Euro pots for the small, slow growing dwarfs. I stake, train and prune them for years. My largest maples are in 3 gallon size containers that are about 36" tall so I can ship in a 4' box. I love tending to my babies, but the shipping part not so much. Thanks for asking.

These pics were taken in the early part of August 2021 , the cultivar will gain more red on the leaf as the months progress into fall , and will finally turn a bright orange/red and does look quite spectacular. I did take some fall pictures but unfortunately my computer gave up on me after 11 years in early November, and i cannot get all my old pictures off , have been told it has a serious problem on the hard drive and will have to go to a specialist to see if they can retrieve all my stored data ?? But i did manage to slip pot this one for this year so will post pics through out the year .

28th April 2022 and my Anne Irene is well underway, this cultivar is spoken about so much and I understand why. It really does so well year in year out.

I think she is looking nice. I placed it in the ground last fall. Unfortunately it will be coming up this fall.

It had some protection from full sun until. My neighbors decided to remove all the trees from their yard :(

So I've moved my Anne Irene from its spot as I've swapped some colours around etc. Decided to look up the thread for this cultivar and had a read through. I'm a bit confused - people seem to be saying it's related to Orange Dream and therefore is likely to burn, don't give it afternoon sun?
Mine was in a position where it got full sun from midday onwards and didn't burn at all, even this year with the heat we had! AND that was the first year I had it and planted it out, so wasn't very well established.

From what I understood, Anne Irene is a sport fro Summer gold and should have (and does in my first year experience) very good heat/sun tolerance.

It's held its yellow very well which is what I wanted, even better than my summer gold in fact.
I had thought about moving it into a slightly different spot which is morning sun only, to try and brighten up that area with some yellow. My only worry was that without a good amount of direct sun, it would simply go greed instead! I'll find out next year I suppose!

I planted mine in full and it didn't burn this year either. I'm waiting to what full sun fall colors will be. I will be moving it to a different location due to it being out grown by others around it.

Maples like people perform well in certain locations. Bristol, UK and Rhode Island I would not consider sunny and hot locations. You may be lucky with your climate that Anne Irene does not burn. I am growing Anne Irene in a poly greenhouse with shade cloth due to the heat here in Vancouver, WA. She is still bright yellow. I have not planted Anne Irene in my display garden yet because of our unpredictable summers, but I will get one in the ground at the end of October. Probably not full sun.

Agreed, but a couple of the people mentioning leaf burn and a tendency to scorch are based in the UK. Acerholic is in a similar zone to myself and is actually pretty close in the grand scheme of things.
