Nearing the final fling here. A couple taken today in the grey, 'Kaba' and a palmatum from seed:

@ROEBUK prompted me to go and look at 'Shishigashira', (because his is so good), here's what I found today:

Thanks! I am starting to get getting used to it, but starting to understand the camera better and get realistic colors.

Here's a series of pictures I took 2 days ago of A. schneiderianum, usually very orange but quite reddish this year in the parts that get sun. Pictured with it's companions A. palmatum (seedling) and A. amplum ssp catalpifolium. The seedling is usually very red, but not this year! The ssp catalpifolium will stay green until it freezes; it was very heavily damaged in the spring frosts this year, but eventually managed to grow a little bit, although the trunk still has large wounds. Schneider's Maple does not leaf out until late May, so it doesn't suffer from leaves freezing.

The yellow leaves in the final pic are from A. longipes var weixiense, also usually orange. Also interesting (to me), in the first picture look at the growth on that palmatum!

I saw Yano-san's post, though not Benoit's. I was unable to visit Nara Maple World during our trip -- when your advice was so very helpful, thanks again! -- and hope to go back specifically to see it.

While I'm at it, here is Acer rubrum in closeup and in a couple of distant views, from 7 Nov.

A little more recently, (13/11) 'Villa Taranto' and 'Orange Dream' (very yellow) from our bedroom window, surrounded by all the maple clutter that annoys Adèle. The maple in the back left is 'Beni tsukasa', which didn't really do much this fall.

I can see that some of your pots are on tables and that you put a kind of plastic mesh under them. I supposed it's to avoid the bottom of the pot being soaked when it rains, am I right ? And do you put the pots on the ground (under the tables) for the winter ?...

Good morning E, lovely as usual, but your very last photo against the stonework epitomises a perfect sunny autumnal day in Normandy.

Probably my last colours for 2021. Sister ghost and Grandma ghost. Been a strange year with so many staying green and then straight to brown and dropping very quickly. But there's always 2022 to look forward to.

Hi D, good to see you back, I hope you're feeling well. Thanks, we do love the old stones. The colors are certainly strange this year though, far fewer reds than usual, and not where expected. Here is a pretty variegated seedling, not normally much for autumn colors, as with most variegates, but this year: red! Most of the variegation invisible with the change, more's the pity. These are from the 10th, it's leafless now.

Hey, your box arrived on Saturday while we were absent, got a note from the Postlady saying she left it "in the side room in the armoire." She's the greatest, I've given her loads of trees to grow. The maples look in great shape, thanks! I should be able to get some off later this week.

I always try and put pots onto something that lifts them up, just to free the holes so the water can run out everywhere. I use lots of different stuff, old door mats, grills, etc, but I never have enough. The tables will all go inside or be folded and put away. I leave all the maples to overwinter our of the wet, on tables in an unheated stable. On the ground they are very likely to be gnawed by mice,

After watching this maple dwindle from ~18" down to 12" in the greenbelt behind our property over the last 6 years I dug up last fall and potted.
Some 4' branches this year and some late late colors for here.

Good morning everyone! I've been busy these days, but I didn't forget to check this thread from time to time, and I'm still stunned by the sheer brightness I've seen in all these pictures. Thank you very much for sharing.
But I didn't forget to do my part, and I've collected a few photos that I'm ready to share. I started taking them by the end of October, thus I'm sorry if the quality seems often inconsistent, but I changed my phone along the way and I'm still learning how to properly use the new camera. This is the first batch, the second tomorrow.

@dangerine49 y'all still have leaves on trees over there! Wow! The only reason I have a few leaves left, on a few, is because I've been stuffing them in the greenhouse the last 2 weeks.

Ha, yeah still have a few. It's been kind of mild so far. Only a couple of nights below freezing.

Have you had any snow yet?
