This a new oliverianum cultivar introduced by MrMaple.com First pic is June 26 Second pic is from today 'HOT BLONDE' WAS FOUND BY THE BROTHERS AT MRMAPLE AS A CHANCE HYBRID BETWEEN ACER OLIVERIANUM AND A GOLDEN JAPANESE MAPLE. THE RESULT IS A GORGEOUS GOLDEN YELLOW UPRIGHT JAPANESE MAPLE WITH ORANGE BORDER IN THE SPRING. 'HOT BLONDE' GETS MORE AND MORE YELLOW AS THE SEASON GOES ON. 'HOT BLONDE' IS A STRONG GROWING AND VIGOROUS TREE, REACHING 12-14 FT IN 10 YEARS. FALL COLOR ON 'HOT BLONDE' IS AN INTENSE FIERY RED. LAST FALL, THE FALL COLOR ON 'HOT BLONDE' LASTED FROM MID-OCTOBER TO MID-DECEMBER EVEN IN OUR HOT COLD FRAMES. THIS MAY BE PERHAPS ONE OF OUR BEST INTRODUCTIONS TO DATE. WE EVEN CONSIDERED PATENTING THIS TREE, BUT DECIDED FINALLY TO RELEASE IT THIS YEAR. 'HOT BLONDE' WILL MAKE A GREAT FOCAL POINT, OR A GREAT GOLDEN YELLOW TREE TO BRING OUT THE REDS AND GREENS IN YOUR LANDSCAPE. 'HOT BLONDE' IS ONE OF THE MOST HEAT TOLERANT JAPANESE MAPLES WE PRODUCE. THIS HEAT TOLERANCE ALLOWS GARDENERS THE ABILITY TO BRING MORE ORNAMENTAL APPEAL TO THE SOUTH WEST EXPOSURE IN THE SOUTHERN GARDEN. GARDENERS IN THE SOUTH HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS JAPANESE MAPLE FOR YEARS. THIS CULTIVAR MUST BE PROPAGATED BY GRAFTING ONTO ACER PALMATUM. 'HOT BLONDE' IS PART OF OUR HEATSEEKERS SERIES™ OF HEAT TOLERANT JAPANESE MAPLES FOR THE SOUTH. Acer oliverianum 'Hot Blonde' Golden Japanese Maple
@LoverOfMaples, fantastic growth D. Heat tolerant as well and so healthy. I can see a wonderful shape for this one in a few years. And Autumn colours to mid December. You're being spoilt!!! You must be over the moon with this acquisition. I would be!!!!!
Yes I was just talking to Matt and Tim about what to expect and how I'm ready to see the fall colors.
@LoverOfMaples, it is a shame that they are not on this forum anymore. Same as Charlie of Amazing Maples. Great that you can discuss new maples with them.
A cultivar named "Hot Blonde" ? OMG ! Don't tell the politicians here !!! <LOL> Frankly, I find it a bit "off-colour". A synonym maybe ?... ;°)
Mr Maillot will put this cultivar online at the end of the week. it is a very promising variety. a yellow that holds up well to the sun, very growing and a magnificent autumnal orange color.
I would love to see an update this year. Just planted one this winter at my dad’s garden and now I’m wondering if I should find a space for one at mine. You think it would look nice next to a Moonrise?
