it’s definitely one of my most advanced trees this year and very healthy. My kids call it “Chocolate Purple” tree, which I think describes the colour perfectly!

Children do see things for what they really are. A great description. I love it.

Mines in full sun D. What a difference positioning makes. Great for others to see how the light affects the colouring.

1.5 -2m in height after 10 years. Ideal for a smaller garden.

18th May 2022 and a bit sparse this year, but those obvious Manyo no sato leaves are here.

A new one for me, which I completely blame on everyone who posted pictures on this thread :) Small, but perfectly formed:

14th June 2022 and not the best of years tbh for my Manyo no sato, but the variegation is still there to be enjoyed. Might lift it in the Autumn and check the roots. I'm on clay soil and even though I have replaced with lorry loads of good top soil, it does need a constant check and re-plennish..

Dulling down now to olive-greens as we go through the hot summer. It's holding up very well: I'm impressed with it.

When ever i buy in new stock from nurseries i always get them in the ground at my place for at least two years so i can get the type of root system established that i like to see on my trees , then i will decide whether or not they stay in the ground or continue into larger pots. This one was bought seven years back now when they were a trendy new comer on to the UK market , planted this straight out but it never really impressed me colour wise !! the leaf was always a strong red colour with little variegation, so it came up and had a root prune and was placed into a container where it's been ever since. What i have found with this cultivar to achieve more purple and celadon leaf colour the roots must be tightly packed into it's pot to a point you could say it's girdling , and this it seems to like this tightness and shows well. This year it's been great and also no die back any where. Added a few more pictures from this afternoon for you to see , this will have another year in it's pot and then it will be root trimmed and slipped next fall ready for the 2024 season.

1st May 2023 and I'm so glad to see this one come back in leaf. I thought it was going to bite the dust, as so many did in the drought and heat of 2022.
