Driving home this morning on Steveston Hwy I noticed this scattering of fungi in the boulevard in front of a new townhouse development, I just had to walk over with my camera and take some shots...

Walking back into my driveway I spotted some in my neighbour's yard...

So lovely! If you happen to be near the last ones in the photo again, I recommend taking a sniff! :-)

The first ones look like Coprinus comatus.
I've never had some, but it's said to be good, as long as it doesn't turn black. That means it must be consumed in less than one hour after being picked. That's probably why I've never tried any though it's very common here.

Just went and was hard pressed to smell much of anything while getting wet knees in my jeans, so I picked one and the concensus was a hint of an earthy, kinda fishy smell. Nothing you'd smell from any distance...

Smell is super subjective which is why I asked you first rather than setting up an expectation. Macrocystidia cucumis are usually reported to smell like cucumber, which I find interestingly different from the other mushroom odours out there :-) Also very pretty cap :-)
