    Lovely and so well maintained!!!
Just keep in mind that for a Japanese garden look less is more… (I realize this referring to maples is anathema to most forum members)
What is the green cover you grow?
    Again, very very nice!!!

    Thanks Nik!

The ground cover is Sedum Sexangulare.

It took us some time to find something that works.
We tried in other parts of the garden (to see what would work):
    * Scleranthus Biflorus/uniflorus. Too slow to grow and not that easy keep alive
    * Irish Moss. Quite fast growing, but often has dried patches in sun
    * Haircap Moss, the proper Japanese looking moss, but not easy to keep moist and alive around here

Sedum Sexangulare gives a look a bit similar to haircap moss. There are some small yellow flowers growing for about a month in July time (they don't last too long and they can be cut). It grows really quickly and really easy to propagate.

Yes, I agree, the other maples won't go into the small dry garden :)

Thanks for the info! I will definitely try it in some problematic spots in the yard.
We are very lucky that we have tons of haircap moss naturally growing around the house. It takes full sun all day long, but on hot summer days it dries out during the day (second picture). The next morning it is nice and green again.. the trick is air moisture, I never water the moss in the yard.

Good morning everyone, I've been out of action on the forum for a while due to unforseen circumstances, but have been watching the postings as often as possible.
So today with a few minutes to spare for my trees, I thought I would show some colour changes that are happening early this year. Dr Brown, Katsura tree, Japanese Sunrise, Koyasan, Oshu shidare, Autumn Moon, Aureum, Otome zakura, Summer gold, and Ryusen.
Dr Brown 350.JPG Katsura tree 350.JPG Japanese sunrise 350.JPG Koyasan 350.JPG Oshu shidare 350.JPG Autumn moon 350.JPG Aureum 350.JPG Otome zakura 350.JPG Summer gold 350.JPG Ryusen 350.JPG

Might be a few days till I'm back again, but I will try and post as often as I can, now the trees are changing.

Yes, a few of mine are also already turning to their Autumn colours, but not those in the shade.

Since almost all of mine are potted, it must be a consequence of the hot periods we had ealier, followed by rather cool and rainy weather : perhaps they "thought" it was the end of summer... ;-)

    That's... pink! ;-)

What's the plant in the background that looks a bit like Larch? (I love Larch, I see them everywhere! <SSD> (smiling self-derisively))

Very unusual... they typically turn yellow/orange/red, not this pink-white mix. I think I will collect it in a pot and see what happens for the next few years.
It is tiny and the background is haircap moss.

Some new growth on a few of my maples. They seem to enjoy the mild and wet summer. Pictures of: Indian summer 2x, Shirazz, Sensu, Pixie, Kamagata and Corallinum.

    Garden looks nice.

A bit of a 'Duh' moment after reading about sedum growing quickly as I always thought it spread so slow.
I think ours is album with white flowers but somewhat similar.
Looked back to when I first noticed in our yard (small piece bottom left in picture) about 6 years ago
    11.26.14 02.58 PM1 copy.JPG

and how it has spread since, wrapping around and penetrating deep into the clump and not only in this direction.
    DSCN2314.jpeg

Back on topic, does form a nice backdrop for 'Geisha Gone Wild' and creeps nicely along and between rocks though I allow things to be rather messy(i.e. lazy).

    Wow! that looks really nice!

I really love that the colors of the Geisha Gone Wild (pink/green) are in the tones (just lighter) of the bamboo in the backdrop (canes and leaves).

May I ask what variety of Bamboo it is? It looks so interesting (its canes in particular)

I popped into a DIY store for some new shovels this evening and came back with Ginkgo biloba 'Troll' for a tenner..a dwarf ginkgo.. I spotted them in there a few months ago for £39 but I think they had forgotten to water the plants in their covered display so it had a some crispies lower down.top growth is all good.. I’ve sat it in a bucket of rainwater to give it a good drink and will pot it up in the morning.. not seen these previously. I searched on here but little info

'O-sakazuki' that gets 1 or 2 hours of sun in the afternoon. The red colours began to show rather early. That's probably because the pot is now too small, so the tree is more stressed when it gets hot.
1st photo : the side that gets some sun, 2nd photo : the side that stays in the shade. Not much difference...

It's a grey Saturday morning, but it's a grey Saturday morning at the beginning of a bank holiday weekend, so that brings happiness all of its own!

Many faces of Ozakazuki (little tree is beginning to bring in some coppery tones that hint at Autumn colours; big tree is putting out bright new spring-coloured growth) :
