Can anyone tell me if my potbound tomato can be repotted mid season? I have a wonderfully large heirloom tomato (brandywine) in a pot on my patio. It already is getting fruit in mid-July, but bottom leaves are starting to turn yellow. I thought I had put it in a large-enough pot, but never expected it to grow as well as it has. I don't want to cause too much set-back. Any ideas? Thanks.
It wouldn't hurt it if you transplant it carefully without disturbing the roots. If it is rootbound, it may not do much better for a while, but eventually it should develop new roots and continue to produce fruit.
Thanks again. I took your suggestion and transplanted it today. It was so root bound that it transplanted nicely with minimal damage to the plant. I shall hope it picks up and carries on as before.
