Had this cultivar a couple of years, still trying to work out what it's supposed to look like.Often quoted as a red cultivar, this may be true though looks like it'll take quite a bit of sun to achieve.I'm trying it in more sun now as it's usually been a dark green and it's gradually changing colour. However looking at some of the leaves on this young graft it appears to want to be a reticulate....now I don't know what to do ha...guess it could also be mislabelled.
    Anyone else growing it?

Cheers Roebuk, although to be honest it's been a rather dull plant so far.I never considered it to be a reticulate 'til I saw the younger plant today.Beni Shig...& Ariadne were next to it and are clearly reticulated and colourful.Maybe I'll try the lil'one in a shady spot.

I kept falling in love with Nathan in Maple Collector's videos on Youtube - so surprised to see that it isn't more popular! Here's mine:

Nathan is just shooting up (clearly the UK weather is doing wonders!) and continues putting out that bright growth into July:

Not to try and convince you otherwise (ahem!) but mine is very columnar so far and takes up almost no room at all - it would be very very easy to squeeze one in somewhere, is all I will say!

I'm really enjoying my Nathan - the new growth is consistently such a joy, it catches my eye amongst all the others in the garden:

Haha, I certainly wouldn't complain if it kept these interesting pale colours well into the summer, that's for sure! Last year it was a lovely deep red that didn't look like the Nathan in the videos I fell in love with (but was a gorgeous shade all of its own!) so it would be nice if it was a bit paler this year just for some variety!

Nathan's lost that creamy centre to its leaves and is starting to deepen up the colour in preparation for sunny summer days:

We're having a muted moment, but I'm expecting that bright red to start coming through any day now:

Bit more sun I think Xi. But the mellow colours are just as nice IMO.

Hmm, that's true - I did move it so that could well be contributing. Let me give it another few weeks, and if it keeps these subtle colours I might think about slowly migrating it to a sunnier spot again. The joys of container gardening - all that moving things around certainly gives me a workout!
