Warm summer evening, my acers all lit up. Glass of wine in hand. My happy place! Does anyone else use lighting effectively with their trees? I’d love to get some more ideas if you would kindly share? That looks great!

    Are they solar?

I have tiny LED string lights in my beloved native BC vine maples - Acer circinatum

    Hi Georgia,
yes indeed all solar. I will be getting some better lighting wired in at some point but solar tech has come a long way in recent years and actually I have been pleasantly surprised by the results for very reasonable money.

I certainly like the LED solar string lights that have the « panel » attached a good distance from the string

So that I can place the panel In brightest sun — and it stores enuf on a coast Sunshine day to power the evening lights entwines in shady maple (they turn on automatically by way of a small daylight light sensor)

That's beautiful Dan and such a relaxing atmosphere you have created. You can just feel the stress washing away just looking at your photos.

Thanks D, I absolutely love being out there with a glass of wine or a fresh coffee in the morning. So peaceful, perfect before or after a stressful day at work.

I need to take some photos.
I have low voltage led spike lights around the garden, it runs from a transformer set on a timer which switches on at dusk and runs for a set amount of hours.
In summer I set to fewer hours than winter as in summer you only need around 3 hours and winter 6 hours.
When I built our patios, I put a waste water pipe, 40mm undeserved the hard areas, patio and paths and it carries the cable and also low pressure water pipe for irrigation

I thought I would take a couple of photos in my garden a few minutes ago for this thread. They are of Red Wine and Emerald lace, with a hint of Red dissectum.

To all of the photo contributors - beautiful !

I think it’s really important to spread our garden design in to winter and dark hours too any time of year - twigs and early foliage -

Maples certainly add height & structure — and protection perches for small local garden birds.

The neighbor kitty cat comes over for candle light visit in winter outside on one of our patios

(Of course, candlelight in Vancouver winter is at 4pm — I would NEVER use candles at this time of year (wildfire risk) but those Jubla from our ubiquitous Swedish big box are a good outdoor winter light)

I meant to be clearer - the vine maple branches in winter are so lovely (and I decorate with string lights as seen in pix)

The fern is native to coastal BC - sword fern.

The skinny upright curly branches are willow that I grow in a container (invasive roots)

    Never tried this ;-)

Only candles or one or two lanterns on, or next to the table when having friends for a barbecue.
