Acer palmatum 'First Ghost'

14th September 2020 and although it is going to be hot later, a lovely early morning dew was on my maples.
First ghost with new growth and a look of frosting on the leaf, is really somehing to behold!!!

 

21st September 2020, the day before the Equinox and my First ghost has the strangest new growth. Perhaps it has eventually realised it's nearing October!!!

 

24th September 2020 and Autumn has really hit home quickly. Cold nights and lots of rain already. But raindrops on colourful leaves is why Autumn is a favorite for so many of us Maple enthusiasts.

 

29th September 2020 and my First ghost is golding into it's greens a lot later this year. More than it has ever done actually.

 

8th October 2020 and I've posted this today due to requests on PM's. Several have asked about the difference between First and Sister ghost.
I have tried to get as close as I could for a detailed leaf pattern.

 

12th October 2020 and my First ghost is holding on and on with it's Summer colours. I will keep the photo diary going regularly over the next few weeks as requested.

 

21st October 2020 and I thought I would show my First ghost for people to see how late this cultivar colours up in the Autumn in zone 8b.

 

26th October 2020 and I wanted to show how quickly First ghost can get ready to drop it's leaves. Not one of tbe longest for Autumn colour each year.

 

It was lovely to chat to some new members on PM's the other day, one of the questions was, can I post more of my early Spring photos to show their progression ? So here goes on the 25th March 2021.

That is beautiful Alex, such a creamy white when the whole tree is seen. Btw a new member from Rome @LorenzoDec I'm sure will be very interested in your postings this year, as will I.

Yes agreed, the ghost series are very special indeed.

 

After Alex @alex66 posted his beautiful First ghost yesterday, I was keen to see how mine was progressing this morning. 28th March 2021.

Oh for the warmth of Rome. But it's on the way.

 

2nd April 2021 and always the first to leaf out of my ghosts. And always catches the Spring frosts. And yes they are coming in a few days.

 

18th April 2021 and what can be more ghostly than a First ghost leafing out.
The spraying twice a day with saved rainwater due to frosts, has worked for another year it seems.

 

4th May 2021 and now my First ghost is showing what it's made of.
This is what I like so much about this cultivar, the deep grooved markings between the each lobe.

 

14th May 2021 and my First ghost enjoyed the few drops of rain.

 

19th May 2021 and the rain has made my First ghost very happy indeed. And now some sun.

 

1st June 2021 and my First ghost is going into Sumner phase when so many of my maples are still in early Spring. What a strange year we are having !!

 

7th June 2021 and my First ghost is colouring up nicely now.

 

Loving it bit of summer rain, definitely one of my favourites

 

I fell in love with this cultivar ever since seeing Charlie's. So I'm in full agreement about being a favourite.

 

Mine is looking stunning at the moment
