3rd June 2021 and I just loved my Trompenburg this morning. Always a brighter red than Starfish. Though I do love both in my garden.

21st June 2021 and my Trompenburg in the rain for me, is a very special sight in my garden this morning. It is one of the maples in my collection that didn't get hit by the April frosts.

Turning green sooner than last year. Looks more red when it's been dry for a couple of days.

In the middle-distance, the small green leaves of 'Tama hime'. "Field maple" and hornbeam in the background.

2nd April 2022 and I thought I would show how the new leaves are coping with the past few days of snow and hard overnight frosts. Not too bad atm.

Isn't that what a 'Trompenburg' should look like ? ;°)

But on the photo, I can see a leaf that was mildly damaged by the frosts :

Promised myself I wouldn't buy any big trees this year. Then promptly bought a 20 litre Trompenburg. Off to a good start, then.

Haha, luckily for us all there are worse bugs to have -- I think it's something about this time of year, spending more time outside now the winter's done you just see a nice big tree-shaped gap and think 'hmm, I know what could fit there!'

The leaflets are unfurling and there's some green beginning to show. On the right in the first photo, Starfish :

Compared to 'Peve Starfish' the leaves lobes are now unfurling and turning green/bronze :

    acerp-tromp_220624a.jpg

(The shaded light on the leathery leaves make them look electric, ... psychedelic ?)
