This small field maple has bright yellow leaves which keep their color well until mid-July (here in Normandie) before fading to a dull matte light green. It must be grown in shade because the leaves whiten and burn very easily, even here where we do not have strong sun. It is a less strong grower than some of the field maples but eventually makes a medium shrub, wider than tall.

Thanks for adding some more cool Acer campestre. The best photo gallery on the web is growing with your help.

I hope you, your family, friends, and colleagues had a safe holiday. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of France.

Here are some more pictures of 'Postelense'. Hard to believe it has only grown this much in 5 years, although it was browsed a bit. The plant is now healthy and established in spite of everything the climate can throw at it. Not drought sensitive, nor particularly bothered by late frosts. It is and old cultivar, really a maple worth growing.

Hey there, I thought the Nichols would have it, but apparently not. Here's some additional info from MOW:

'Postelense' Lauche (1896), Germany. "Discovered by von Salisch in Postel, near Militch in Silesia (Poland), and introduced by R. Lauche."

Heh, I'm guessing it will be easier to get in the UK than the US.

I think the lack of popularity is that it burns so easily, it really has to be well sited.

Thanks E, a good tip. It will be potted so I can move it to suit. I will let everyone know when I get mine.
