Introducing my new Koto No Ito, bought in the fall of 2011. These pics come from mid to late March of 2012. She withstood the heat and drought this past summer rather well, despite being in full morning sun till around noon. I have her planted near the base of a 60 year old oak tree.

Does anyone have photos of this tree in winter? I'm looking for a bright green, max 10'-12' JM for outside a picture window, and I'm wondering what this one will look like during the winter.

I don't have a picture, but I have never been impressed with any of the linearlobums for winter structure. Certainly not for a location in front of a picture window, lots of better choices out there.

Thanks. That's kind of what I suspected, but it's good to have someone with experience confirm it. Much appreciated.

My Koto no Ito from a small graft in 2011 to now. It has not grown a lot taller but filled in nicely since it has been in the ground about 2 years now. I like it a lot.

So much more advanced than mine in Hampshire. Your temperate climate in Somerset suits your trees very well indeed.

Thanks, must say I've lost a few over the years, but what I have now seem to be coming along nicely, wind is my biggest problem although I hope I've found the right position for some of them now.

I think the wind over the last couple of days has hit a lot of our trees N. But where you are it is probably a lot stronger. So you have done incredibly well to get your koto no ito to that lovely condition.

I've had trouble finding a place for mine: it exploded in size last year and mingled with its neighbours into an undefined cluster of green. Moved it away from its previous spot, and it's doing well watching over some of the little trees (albeit still going to be quite a green patch when the Beni Maiko turns....)

Koto no Ito showing some really fresh greens now. It's starting to put out wider leaves now the really narrow ones are all out:

Someone was talking about Kinshi the other day, but I think koto-no-ito is a stronger cultivar.

Funny to look back at the photo from May this year: I hadn't realised just how bushy this fella has become over the summer (and I've pruned it quite viciously too - I can't begin to imagine how it would look with all those original branches still there!)

Some subtle hints of autumn colour. Hoping we get some more before the wind strips all the leaves away:

Somewhat less subtle now: we're getting a proper autumn show:
