Now that really is Spring I. The age of the trunk from the air layering certainly gives it so much character. You must be very pleased.

Yes D, seeing the flowers made me happy and it's the only tree that have fully opened leaves so it's pleasing as I hate winter.
Now I am checking every day all my trees in the garden hoping to see them bud break and fill the garden with wonderfull colors, I guess everyone is slowly guetting impatient aswell.

Impatient but very nervous, we have severe frosts forecast at the end of this week. I do hate it when those new little leaves get burnt. At least your Kotohime is in a pot so can be moved to a protected place.

Right, the frosts that can comeback till may are scaring and I agree it is a problem.

Three maples, each one at different level of growth.

Not long now I and we will all have something to show. We are going to be battered by gale force wind and rain over the next few days, but after that it looks good for the Spring leafing out.

Great to see you have finaly some good leaves to make you feel and enjoy the spring D.

I was expecting to have night frosts for at least the next 3 or 4 days but it seems it was only this last night and here it should be safe for the next 2 weeks.

Glad you escaped it even if only a little I. Yes My Kotohime has cheered me up no end. I did take your advice and cover it last night. Thankyou

16th April 2021 and after -5° C last night and actually the worst of all the frosts over the past 7 -10 days, my Kotohime did OK. It still has the moisture on the leaves from my regular spraying.

I have two Kotohime that couldn't be more different. The little one looks to have a very 'classic' habit, but the big one.... who knows what's going on there. I've staked most of the branches recently as it was very weepy - let's see if that helps at all.

I wonder if no 2 is a Kotohime Xi ? Leaves look very different to a hime.

I wondered that too last year when I first received it, but I have no idea what it could be (it was certainly sold as a Kotohime, but who knows!) Might try posting some close-ups of the leaves in another thread at some point and see if anyone has any ideas...?

Thank you! Even if it's - as we suspect - maybe not a Kotohime, it's a nice little thing all the same.

Those are words I like to hear Xi. What's in a name when the tree looks wonderful. What we do know is it's a maple... so that will do nicely.
