IMO Butterfly is best appreciated as a stand alone specimen as you have done here. A different shape to mine, but very pretty indeed.

15th April 2021 and the purpose today is to show how most of my trees are looking after days of severe frosts. This is my Butterfly today after regular spraying with rain water at night and in the mornings. Not too bad IMO.

23rd Apr 2021, St George's day here in England and a beautiful bright blue sky, with my Butterfly making me very happy indeed. Hope it does the same for you all.

Looking good. Had late April frost here for second night in a row. Fortunately don’t see any damage.

I don't see anything other than a beautiful Butterfly. It's really special Ultraman.
I think that woodland closeby is also giving your maples some protection.

7th May 2021 and my Butterfly is one of my collection that copes very well with late Spring frosts. I do like to view it close up so that I can appreciate it fully.

Nice pinks. There is a lot to see up close in those leaves. Like you have mentioned before, I still cannot believe have far ahead our maples are here in the US versus your homeland. Amazing. Yours is coming along nicely however!

Thankyou Ultraman, I do love the close ups of all maple leaves. Re the conditions here, yes I think as a whole we are about two weeks behind you there in the US. It's been the coldest April in over 60 years, so a lot have not leafed out yet. But my Butterfly never let's me down.

Neither does mine, but it's kept in the shade. The one I gave my son (actually a a 1.50 m tall (5 feet) airlayer in a big pot whereas I kept the mother tree in a bonsai pot is only abou 60 cm (2 feet)) gets more sun and has more pink on the leaves.

26th May 2021 and after a request to see my full tree, here it is. We have enjoyed this fun shape over the years. I do believe a garden should make you smile.

This one just gets better and better as the years go by N. Just watch it perform every season and you will 'never' be disappointed it came home with you from the supermarket.

Pink, cream and green in Spring. The pink disappears in Summer.
I cut off the leaves/twigs that are reverting.

It's got a long branch on one side : a good opportunity to take an air-layer, cuttings and air-layers are very succesful on this one.

PS : another air-layer on the Deshojo woukd be a nice gift for a friend...

5th May 2022 and my first posting of the year. Looks as though it might be a good one for my old Butterfly.

Mine seemed to have more pinks this year. These pics were taken about one month ago when the plant first leafed out. I took the pictures after a light rain so the leaves almost look like they’re frozen. Lovely pinks and cream colors. Loving this tree more every year.

14th June 2022 and as I said to a new member yesterday, this is one variegated maple I would not want to be without in my garden. It's always so refreshing to look at.

This one gets the sun until 10, then it's in the shade the rest of the day. The cream-coloured leaves make a nice contrast with the other ones. There's even one tiny twig that shows some pink again. We had heavy rain for a couple of days last week, but now we're heading to 35°+ until Sunday.
