@AlainK. I would like to see them very much Alain. Yes, I keep a few off that thread aswell . It is for cheering ourselves up at the end of the day, not for depressing everyone Lol.
21st August 2020, two named Summer storms are going to hit later today with winds of 50 mph plus, so I thought it better to take photos early. All have picked up this last week due to cooler conditions and long awaited rain. The colours are changing !!!! My favourite in my garden today is my Autumn moon and without a doubt this has been the best year ever for all my Shirasawanum's.
All the colours are appearing now on all my maples and as promised I will keep the photo diary going to show the transformation. So much rain now and new growth, the new shoots are loving this weather at last. August 23rd 2020 and my Autumn Moon is holding on. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but as the forecast is not to get hot for the rest of August, it might, just might do well in the Autumn ?????
30th August 2020 and it is definitely getting colder. My maples are very happy now that the Summer heat has passed. They are all enjoying the early morning sun. So much colour this year, if the leaves do brown and curl up in a couple of weeks, then at least I had a wonderful Summer with my Autumn moon.
7th September 2020 and in Southern England it is getting warmer once again. So surprised to see my maples with such dry leaves this morning. But this year is so very different for so many reasons!!? Will my Autumn moon follow my Aureum into a fast decent to brown leaves before an Autumn show!!? I don't think so!! Looking quite good atm.
15th September 2020 and half way through the month already, but it is hot again, 30°C yesterday and expected hotter today. But as is so often at this time of the year, the morning dew is here again, making trees look pretty. As some of my other Shirasawanum's are turning brown, my Autumn moon is holding on really well.
It gets the sun only very briefly, say about one hour in late afternoon, yet, some of the leaves are scorched :
1st October 2020 and my Autumn moon in the rain was just looking a bit cute IMO, so the camera had to come out and share two photos with the forum.
21st October 2020 and my Autumn moon is continuing to be colourful, when my other Shirasawanum's have either lost their leaves or are about to.. So if you are considering buying a shirasawanum variety, then this cultivar is a good bet for long Autumn colour.
Couldn't agree more, this maple deserves a place in any garden, as long as you give it the protection it requires, as you have done very well. Can't wait for mine to leaf out now...
No matter the continent, the flowers are everywhere this year. I wonder if it's from the late frosts!!?
This Autumn Moon is my first successful maple graft. Grafted in 2007/08 winter. On this thread you can see picture of mother "tree" posted in April 2007. I am getting old...
3rd May 2021 and I wanted to show how very slow everything is this year in leafing out. But it was the coldest April in 60 years.
7th May 2021 and an update in my Autumn moon. It's getting there, but so very slow this year. Coldest April in 60 years will do it !!
