This is the compliment to 'A.p. Sangu kaku', with brilliant lime-green bark in the winter time. Thin, bright green summer foliage turns yellow-gold in the fall. Upright growing small tree with a spreading top. Moderate growth rate of 5-8 inches, with a mature height of 7-13 feet. The branches and twigs, like its coral-barked relative, are succeptible to wind burn in the winter.

This was bought as Acer palmatum Aoyagi, planted in August 2000, in dappled shade.
It must be one of the fastest growing acers we have put in! It tends to be wider rather than tall and certainly has a lovely colour in the autumn. The young branches have lovely green bark.

This is a very nice green tree. Does burn a bit in full sun.

Aoyagi has nice a nice yellow fall color. The green bark also starts to stand out in fall. This is still one of my most poular green leaf trees.

This is my new Acer palmatum 'Aoyagi ', it has very striking lime green leaves and branching that continues in the Summer. This is going to be planted near my Sangu Kaku and Bi-hoo to give a lovely contrast of colours.
I anticipate beautiful golden foliage this Autumn.

9th August 2020 and 6 weeks since my last photo of this one. Doing OK IMO. A few marks on the leaves, but overall I am pleased. Has coped with strong drying winds and 36° C heat, so not bad at all.

August 24th 2020 and I am keeping the photo diary going the best I can. So much rain and tomorrow 70mph winds forecast. Will the leaves be there for October!!!??
A few weeks since my last posting of my Aoyagi, thought it might be scorched, but to my surprise it has done well.

Sold to me as Acer Palmatum Ukon, I think one of it's alternate names.

The leaves are stained with calcium from hard water from the nursery.

@Mani good morning Mani, very nice tree. Don't worry about the deposits, this can be washed off with rain water or left for this season, as it is nearly Autum.

I am getting new growth on mine - is that unusual for this time of the year?

@Mani good morning Mani, yes it is tbh. It is a very strange year, it's happening everywhere. As long as we don't get too early a frost then it should be fine. But tender new shoots now might not make it through the Winter.

7th October 2020 and my maples are either turning to Autumn colours, or have new Spring like growth or the leaves are just ready to drop. Such a strange year.
But my Aoyagi at least has lovely new buds forming for next year.

I love this tree. It will brighten up any dark spot in the yard. This is the first time it has flowered.

And yet there are not a lot of these in peoples gardens, or collections. But I'm in full agreement D, it is a maple that will brighten any position n tne garden you give it.
Lots of flowers again D, this is quite a pattern this year everywhere. Wonder what this is telling us ?

4th May 2021 and this is my first posting of my Aoyagi for this year, I cannot believe how late everything is. But with still more frosts to come over the next few nights, it is understandable.
But I'm pleased with what I have.
