Atsumori, on the south side of W. 14 (Lord Byng Secondary), west of Wallace, is in full bloom at April 14, 2021.

Nice, low-growing shoot available this year, to show the short triangular sepals, downy pedicels, and the brown-tipped stamens.

The Tai-haku trees on the meridian of W. 16, from Dunbar to Crown, are in bloom at April 14, 2021.
This tree is in front of Lord Byng Secondary, in the 3900 block.

@GeoffT sent me these two photos two days ago from the block of 'Ukon' on the 4400 block of W. 7th and Trimble. Janice Lin posted did a posting last year at West Point Grey of photos from these trees, showing a lot of green. We are going to need a lot of careful examination of the trees here, one-by-one, to see if they are all the same, and if they have the somewhat heavier outer petals of 'Gyoiko'.

Good morning Geoff. Thank goodness for Cherries, your photo shows perfectly why more trees are needed. I tried to imagine that Avenue without them and tbh much like streets over here, it would be so dull and depressing.
    A good photo.

I went back to 7th and Sasamat/Trimble to photograph every tree (or almost - I think I have 8 trees), after hearing @Douglas Justice say that we do have 'Gyoiko' on city streets. I thought there was one tree with no green, but green tends to show up on photos anyway when it wasn't noticeable on site, and now I can't tell which tree that was. Here are two photos from one of the trees, the SOOC version (straight out of the camera), and edited the way we see some photos on the internet. These photos are from the same tree. Kuitert, in Japanese Flowering Cherries (Timber PRess, 1999, p. 351-2) says "when expanded, the outer petals are reflexed, resulting in a not-so beautiful flower shape." I would say that from the front, these outer petals appear to be reflexed, not affecting the beautiful shape at all, and from the back they do not appear reflexed.

I forgot I wanted to post two 'Shiro-fugen' on that block of 7th east of Sasamat, and there are two young 'Kanzan' as well. One 'Shiro-fugen' is either low-grafted or on its own roots.

I don't know. I think they're plastic, and they're usually on the park board trees. Maybe they offer protection from lawn mowers.

Beautiful Shirofugen trees planted near the Spanish Banks West concession stand

Actually, I saw a LOT of Shirofugens along that Point Grey bike route, but I was cycling, so I couldn't shoot.
Note: the 2nd photo above is for @Acerholic - I hope they are reading this thread, too.

There's not many 'Akebono' in Vancouver which can match West Point Grey's titan controlling the southwest corner of W. 7th and Blanca. It must be that strong trunk. In full bloom at April 4, 2022.

What I mistook to be 'Ukon' trees as I whizzed by in the car this morning.. Upon further investigation and actually stopping and taking a picture they are in fact 'Tai Haku' very large flower with red new growth.....and pictures previously taken by Anne post 78, and the map does show these 3 trees in front of Lord Byng and 2 more on 16th at Highbury. It is much better to actually get out of the car and verify what I am looking at....

I like the nighttime photos too - provides a little variety on the Blooming Now list of favourites in bloom.

The Atsumori on 14th between Crown and Wallace is still there, but there's a second cherry tree to its East now! That tree was in bloom half a month ago, and small flowers too? But darker pink so not sure what it may be. Autumnalis? Accolade?
You can just see it, the dark trunk in between the second and third white trunks.

Nice to have a few flowers around on the other tree. Looks like 'Accolade'.
I fixed the photo display on the map for 'Atsumori'. Thanks for posting that one - I was wondering about it.

That's true, Accolade would make more sense as the petals aren't as narrow as Autumnalis petals. They are smaller compared to the Accolades I see at 5th and Nootka but maybe it's because the tree is young.
