Thank you, my fingers are crossed too, for all our beloved trees. These sudden temperature drops are troublesome, for sure, I hope they won't become this much of a habit. But enough with the sadness, we have to cheer up here, don't we? Here's a favorite of mine, seems like he's doing fine at the moment.

Oh yes, definatly a cheering ourselves up thread Lorenzo. And seeing your Ukigumo has done that for me this afternoon. Does yours go whiter over there in Spain? Just wondered with the different temperatures you get there. I know this one likes shade a lot as well.

    Manyo No Sato
Very happy with this one, even though I didn’t get much change out of £50

But worth it Luke as it's a strong tree, there is always a worry with buying small grafts.
You are going to be very happy with this purchase.

Ki Hachijo I have wanted since seeing Mark @ROEBUK post his awesome specimen. Then looked for it on Hippos site and it it described as ‘their favourite tree’. Well that was it. Had to have one!
Found this but the branches were all bunched together. I know with a bit of training and patience I can turn this one into I nice open shape.

With training this is one of the best cultivars for that Japanese floating look that we all try to aspire to with our trees.
A great find Luke. Hippo ?

Aureum. Never going to get much for your money with these as they are so slow, but the garden centre had about 10 bunched together. I got every single one out and inspected carefully to ensure I got the best one.

Looks a really good shape. Tbh I think it might look good kept small. Especially with a thick trunk over the years. I will enjoy seeing your future postings on this one.

No, all these from a garden centre. I had it in my basket for hippo but the trees they supply are just so small, so when I saw this for the same price, well £24.99 so a little more, I snatched it up. I couldn’t believe my luck ;-)

That is where the Japanese excel, they know exactly where to place each tree. Centuries of experience passed down !!
Again, having them in pots means if it's not right then it gets moved.

Think I’ll bring the Manyo No Sato in over the weekend as the new shoots look so delicate.

And imagine if I’d had them in the ground last November Derek. I would have lost the lot. Or had a lot of work to do!!

That is a good garden centre, not many around that have the more difficult to find trees.

Thanks D that sounds like a good idea, although they do quite a good job on their own at ‘keeping small’ lol

It was greener last Spring, I think because I tried to give him a bit of morning sun, and the soil mix was too much alkaline. This year I'm going to keep him in full shade, we'll see how it goes.

That is stunning. I’m definitely keeping my Ukigumos in the shade this year!

That's a really fine specimen! Manyo No Sato is a must have, in my opinion. May seem inconspicuous at first, but has a unique charm
