The Somei-Yoshino trees along the south side of E. 41st, from Gladstone to Stirling, are at peak bloom at April 3, 2021 (same as last year).

 

The two Akebono trees on the north side of E. 45th (from Nanaimo to Berkeley) are in full bloom at April 3, 2021. Akebono continue around the corner north on Berkeley.

 

The two older Sargent hybrid trees on the east side of Gladstone (south E. 48th) are in full bloom at April 3, 2021, with flowers starting to fall.

 

In England ours are only just opening..... My wife and I are enjoying all your wonderful photos Anne from accross the water.

The nine young Tai-haku trees planted on the field area next to Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith Elementary on the north side of E. 54th (west of Elliott) are providing both classroom, and flowers at April 15, 2021.

 

The Shirotae on Charles Kingsford-Smith Elementary's Elliott Street side (about E. 53rd) is just past peak bloom, starting to get red eye at April 15, 2021.

 

Good morning Anne, from my wife on a very cold -5°C here this morning, 'Thankyou'. The whites are her favourite btw.

 

Ito-kukuri ("bundled with thread") is at full bloom with its bundled threads on the south side of E. 54th (east of Wales) at April 18, 2021. Across the street, the Kanzan trees are also in bloom.


Here is a close-up of the "prominent, darker, thread-like veins" on "broad, ragged-edged petals". Compared to the lines on a Takasago blossom (from Vivian and E. 50th), Ito-kukuri lines form a more obvious network.

'Ito-kukuri' and 'Takasago'

 

The Takasago trees along Vivian Drive, south of E. 50th, are just past peak bloom at April 18, 2021. This one tree actually looks good for a Takasago (at least it looks like a tree, instead of a deformed runt).


Here is a close-up of the extra sepals, and the fine hairs on pedicels and leaves of Takasago.

 

The mature Ichiyo trees along the west side of Vivian (Lynbrook to Brightwood Place) are in full bloom at April 18, 2021.

 

What a lovely Cherry lined street, looks a wonderful place to live.

 

The two young Shirotae trees accompanying Ichiyo (Vivian, north of Brightwood) have passed peak bloom at April 18, 2021. As Wendy has noted, white cherry blossoms fade pink and here we have caught Shirotae in the very act of turning pink (second photo)—so that in the third picture, the blooming on one Shirotae tree seems to be meshing with that of Ichiyo behind it.

 

Very cute gland-tipped bracts too. Now I wonder if that's distinctive.

 

And the pink fade white. Presumably there's a point at which they will look the same. And then someone will post one for ID.

 

The grove of 'Somei-Yoshino' trees along the south side of E. 41st, from Gladstone to Stirling, have just passed peak bloom at April 2, 2022.

 

One of the two mature Sargent hybrid trees on the east side of Gladstone (south E. 48th), just past peak bloom at April 2, 2022, is growing, not only cherry blossoms, but also dandelions.

 

'Ito-kukuri' on E. 54th near Wales is just getting ready to open, lots of time yet (like a few days) to post some photos in full bloom.

And here is the 'Ito-kukuri' finishing its bloom on May 1.

 

The 'Ichiyo' trees along the west side of Vivian Drive (7400 to 7600 block, south of Brightwood) are in full bloom at April 28, 2023.


The bloom is so prolific and heavy this year, that from one spot, it looks like a blossom curtain has come down from the tree.

The two trees of 'Shirotae', just down the street from the 'Ichyio' (Vivian Drive, south of Brightwood) have just past peak bloom at April 28, 2023. Their bloom is also prolific and despite the odd upward/downward-pointing branch, the trees are displaying the classic flat, table-top 'Shirotae' look.

 

The nine young 'Tai-haku' trees in the schoolyard field of Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith Elementary (north side E. 54th, west of Elliott) are in full bloom at April 28, 2023.

Ah, that's what I like about 'Ichiyo' - the white flowers wrapped in pink, so beautiful when they first open. They're often good-looking trees too.
