This is bad. 'Kanzan' tree house on Island View Dr and Oceanview Dr. What were they thinking? That poor tree.
Went for a drive yesterday with my neighbour Joy. I am trying to recruit another scout on Sunshine Coast. She spotted this ‘Whitcomb’ on Wharf Rd at Thompson Rd in Langdale. Actually there are six ‘’Whitcomb’ planted at this location, but this was the one very near the street. Other five are clearly on private property. Joy thinks cherry scouting is great fun, and so do I.
Looks like I will miss all the VCBF this year. Fortunately there are cherry blossoms here on Sunshine Coast too. Spotted this big old ‘Beni-shidare’ in Sechelt today.
You just posted a 'Whitcomb' still in bloom, whereas ours in the West End are way finished, yet your 'Beni-shidare' is at the same stage as ours. I don't know why I ever thought I could figure out blooming dates for all these cultivars in all these areas. Clearly guessing isn't going to get me near the right dates. Good thing no-one this year is asking us for the dates when they should visit to see the trees in bloom.
A good-looking ‘Whitcomb’ at the Parks Yard on School Rd in Gibsons. I was especially taken by the rootstock. It’s behind a chain link fence, which is good for the tree but not photography.
My neighbour Joy spotted this ito-zakura on one of her physical-distancing walks around the block. Only the trees in Gibsons get haircuts. The rest of us will have to wait.
Highlight of my day. Spotted a ‘Snofozam’ in Roberts Creek. Probably the only one on the entire Sunshine Coast.
A few young ‘Akebono’ on Highway 101 at Inlet Ave in Sechelt. Rootstocks are all exactly 6 feet tall and very uniform. Teutonic precision.
Nice setting for 'Shirotae' at Gibsons Landing. Complete with babbling brook and mural. 20200407 GowerPt Shirotae Willard IMG_5974 by Willard posted Apr 8, 2020 at 11:54 AM
The 'Kanzan''s (how do you write that?) last hurrah. You could stand there and watch the sweet cherry rootstock swallow up the last of it.
