One of my favourite websites to visit when I can't fall asleep is Atlas Obscura - "The definitive guide to the world's hidden wonders". I thought this article was equally funny and fascinating. Inside the Gently Competitive World of Giant Vegetable Growing
Really enjoyed this read Margot, but when it says 'gently' competitive, I did smile. I've known many an allotment grower that is 'fiercely' competitive even amongst other local growers. Their feeds etc are so protected and not even given to family members, Lol. Bit like a family recipe that is handed down in a will.
Except that the guy they focus on in the article gives away his seeds and shares his knowledge. He also eats the produce. It's an enjoyable read. There's a link on that page to Cracking the Case of South India's Missing Vegetables - Gastro Obscura (atlasobscura.com) The author's grandmother's favourite cookbook that contains recipes using so many of the forgotten vegetables was published only 70 years ago.
