I want to see if there is a difference between getting on the watch list because of a posting, or specifically signing up. In both cases, do you get booted off the list by not reading the latest posting?
I had to look up how this test works. Good thing I documented it. OK, I'm replying, and Willard will not read this reply, will not look at the thread, but has replied here, so is set up automatically to follow the thread and will receive a notification, and will tell me that by email. This is Step 2 in this test plan: Step 1: please do a reply in this Test Bed thread: Testing the notifications | UBC Botanical Garden Forums. That sets you up as watching the thread. Step 2: I will then do a posting, and you can tell me that you received a notice. Don't go back to the thread. Just tell me you received a notice, but don't click it or go to the thread. Step 3: I will do another posting. You should not get a notice. Step 4: When we've decided you're not going to get a notice, go back to the thread and click the Watch thread link at the upper right. Step 5: Then I will do another posting, and you should get a notice. Don't go back to the thread. Just tell me you received a notice, but don't click it or go to the thread. Step 6: I will do another posting. What we're testing is whether or not you get a notice, since you have specifically set up the thread to watch but you did not follow the latest posting.
1. That's a long time - 45 minutes to receive the notice. and 2. I thought since Willard did not come back to check the page, that she would not get that notice. So we have to start over.
I wonder if I screwed up anything by quoting Willard. I will try to remember not to do that. The notice just above this posting only took 3 minutes. This posting restarts Step 2. Willard should get a notice, is to tell me via email, not here. I will keep doing replies until she does not get a notice, and I want to count how many postings she has to ignore to get dropped.
Starting with the test in posting #9, Willard received the notice. Here is another reply. We seem to have determined in posting #8 that she will get a notice for this reply. Step #2, second posting.
Is there a problem occurring with receiving notifications Wendy ? I'm not getting that here in the UK.
@Acerholic, I'm doing a test with Willard here; there are not really supposed to be replies in the testbed; in this case, the test involves keeping track of when postings are done and what notifications Willard gets, so please don't post here. And please don't reply to apologize. But I'll answer the question - she wasn't aware that I'd posted the cherries in the snow, and I know that she used to be subscribed to the thread, so I'm trying to understand how she got unsubscribed and whether deliberately following a thread keeps someone from being unsubscribed. I think this puts us in Step #3 now.
@Acerholic, you have unwittingly helped us with our test, but still, please do not reply. Willard has not received the notification of your posting, only of my 10:48pm posting. She also has not received notification of my 11:19pm posting, so that indicates that it took only one ignored posting for her to be dropped. That's back to what I'd thought. Maybe we got confused last night. We're ready for Step 4.
This is so hard! Willard seems to have re-activated her interest; I think she has come to the thread, but she didn't click the Watch Thread, if it said that. Now it says Unwatch Thread. This is her screen print. I was going to start a new thread, but I think we can do this here, or else that will be an interesting wrinkle. We are back to Step #2. Willard should get this notification.
Here is one more test note. It already looks like Willard did not get notified of the previous note. Here's another for good measure.
She received the notification of this one (2:55) but not the one at 1:16. This makes no sense. I am splitting up the test, will do the deliberate setting test in a new thread.
