After going for a walk and hour or so ago, I found myself amongst all the fallen Acer campestre leaves and thought, why not post a photo of these. Especially as it's native to the UK.
We take so many pictures of maples in all seasons with leaves on the branches but how about when they have fallen. Just as pretty IMO.

You can just picture children kicking through them or throwing them up in the air. Beautiful golden leaves D

... Not to mention horse chestnut, playing with conkers or making spider webs with the leaves...

Exactly, that's what growing up is all about. Sadly Conker playing is not allowed in the school playgrounds anymore due to the nanny state. The children of today will not have those wonderful memories we have when they are older.

Good afternoon N, this is a tree that you can easily walk past in the Summer, but when the leaves are scattered on the ground at the end of Autumn they become a Wow !!! Lovely photos N.

Wish I could give more than one like N. I love this tree and it's leaves. Sadly I lost my Griseum in the Spring, but at least I can see yours. Thankyou.

    Cheating : Zelkova leaves ;0)

But what can I do ? It's a 12-15 metre-tall tree that loses its leaves after most on my maples... ^_^

You can almost see that photo in a frame in an art gallery. Doesn't nature produce such wonders even from fallen leaves.
I'm loving all the posts on this thread.

I can send you a Zelkova seedling too ! ;°D

It's a very resilient tree that can be kept small in a pot. Very few seeds (they're very small) on the big one in the soil this year, it seems that the heat wave grilled them before they matured.

A small one (40-45 cm) which is almost as old as the one in my garden, from the same batch bought more than 20 years ago :

You really are trying to get me in so much trouble Alain, Lol.
That is a beauty you have there. Many years of work to get it looking like that. So delicate !!! Love the fallen leaves by the pot to keep it in context with the thread !!!! 'Clever'

Come on, it's easy to keep it small, responds very well to hard pruning, very sweet green in Summer and an explosion of gold, reds and oranges in Autumn, who wouldn't want one ?

Better behaved than a Jack Russel (I mean not so "electric"), needs much less food than an Irish Wolfhound, no cleaning in the lawn, no postman suing you for his bitten hand, what could you ask for?... <LOL>

Something I'm quite pleased to see the end of. I remember it being strongly associated with bullying - that's more a reason for stopping it, than any (very low) potential for injuries in the game itself. And also bad behaviour in parks - kids throwing sticks up in trees, or even worse, climbing trees and breaking branches off, to get the conkers. They never seemed to understand that the best (hardest) conkers were those which were allowed to ripen fully and fall naturally; conkers picked before maturity are soft.
