@dicky5ash Good evening R, I think Luke @Luke’s Maples went there recently and was very impressed.
If I'm correct, Artaryi gives an amazing Autumn display, so it will be something rather special to show and tell in a few weeks R!!!

Yes Batsford is great. They have a couple of really huge old Shishigashiras that will steal the show in the next few months!

Yes that’s the one.. I drove past the lane it’s down 3 times..the postcode was taking me up the road..I checked google maps and it said it was opposite castle nursery

I asked in a tea shop 300 yards away and a local up the road but they hadn’t heard of it

Thanks D, I’ve never seen a JM with such large leaves..I am hopeful it will be a stunner in time.

There was a massive koto no ito, probably 10ft, with a very thick trunk For £320 gorgeous tree..fortunately I was in my Tesla hatchback not in my mums tree collector Belingo hahahahaha

I have used Broadway Road mail order a few times and been quite impressed. Never actually visited though. What a shame it is so hard to find. I’m going to Batsford again tomorrow. I loved it.

Ahhh great, have a look at the huge koto no ito immediately on the left as you enter the outside garden centre area..Quite a lot of money but fairly priced for its age and size. Do let me know what you think. The chap said they had just received a large batch of JMs in. There was a very healthy single smallish Tsuma Gaki hiding amongst other trees, others that caught my eye were P. Okagami, P. Hessei, P. Chitoseyama, Green Trompenburg, Oranagola (the later 2 varieties were a little crispy), lots of lovely Shishigashira.. have fun

Good morning everyone, the 1st September and Autumn dew on my trees. These were looking so pretty early this morning, so I have no one favourite today.

Lovely pics, all yours have coloured up very nicely, I really like the Auruem..mine is still green, not a hint of colour atm. Having seen your Hessei I wish I’d picked one of those up yesterday..they were dark solid green in the shop

@dicky5ash yes Hessei is becoming a real favourite in my garden, do go for it next time you are there. It does like the sun btw.
Thanks for the kind comment R.

Having had a good look round the garden this morning having been away..I am thinking of a few maple chess moves.. also disappointingly my 25 year old red garnet still seems to have a few crisps to the end of some leaves (but not widespread) even though it gets no direct sun after midday and is in a very sheltered spot round the side..strangely seems to be around the lower skirt of the mound. Some to the tips of my Baldsmith too but not enough to ruin the overall look. I have watered them carefully and consistently too. Maybe it was those hot winds we had a while back or the fierce winds whilst I way away..

It’s been a funny year..some things have done spectacularly well and some not so well..my Jordan was looking suburb, leaf perfect until the last 3 weeks.. now looks a bit shabby..although healthy overall. One of my Bihoo’s is absolutely loving life this year..strong and lots of new growth. Several dissected trees with sun protection after 11.30/midday are a little crispy here and there..strange.

There are a few obvious chess moves for additional sun protection..

@dicky5ash yes I think you are right R, those strong drying winds have done a lot of damage this year, but on the bright side we all have some that have done really well. A strange year definitely!!!!!! My Jordan is the same btw. So I think a lot of us are in the same boat , lol.
So it's chess moves for you in the next few weeks!!? Such a busy time for we maple growers. But lots of wonderful colours already starting, together with morning dew and a few cobwebs, think we might have some beauties on the thread from everyone.
Enjoy your lovely sunny day today R.

Good morning and the second day of dew on my maples. Now I do have a favourite today and it is my 'Atropurpureum'. Early Sunshine and dew, a great combination!!!

Another batch as there may not be dew tomorrow and they all would not fit on one post together. My favourite in this batch is 'Pixie'. But really hard to choose today.

Can you understand this new growth so late in the year R !!?. Quite baffling. Let's enjoy it though none the less.
