This tree in a friend's garden has us stumped! dicots from Tofino, BC, Canada on July 25, 2020 at 05:17 PM by J Straka. Cultivated, in a garden. Supposedly south-american. Would appreciate help with a ID! Distinctive fruits, lenticels on bark, and serrated leaves. ยท iNaturalist It has been growing in Tofino in mostly shade for about 10 years (on what was previously a compost pile) and is now quite large (say, 20 feet tall). It is thin, serrated leaves, what look like obvious lenticels on the bark, and distinctive-looking fuzzy fruit. The gardener informed me that someone told her it was native to South America. Sorry in advance for the crummy pictures, but it should be identifiable!
This is very intriguing but neither the photos nor the additional information provided are enough for me to venture an ID. Perhaps someone else on these Forums is more familiar with S. American trees. Could you send some close-up pictures of the leaves, twigs and branches? Like you, I'm very curious to know what it is.
Sorry, Margot. I was visiting a friend, took the photos on my cell phone, and later realized that the resolution was terrible. I may ask her for more photos, but it looks like Ron B. may have solved it!
