I've just received my new Acer palmatum 'Mystic Jewel'. At this moment in time it is not exactly a jewel, but it has wonderful shaped leaves that are going to look great when they mature.

    Time will tell!!!!!!

Definitely Luke , that's what this forum is so good for. If it's OK with you and @dicky5ash, I will move the last few posts to the Mystic jewel thread.

The first 2 are of my Mystic Jewel which I’ve had for a couple of months, it’s colour is nothing like the pictures, Also its not grafted which is dissapointing.
The other 2 are of my Black Lace, this is planted in full sun so probably not as dark as it would be in shade.

Good afternoon Del, great to hear from you. Yes Mystic Jewel is a wait and see I think regarding colouring.
Love your Black Lace, I got one for Fathers day yesterday, but it's late coming to me. Can't wait tbh.
Apart from the lovely maples, it looks like you have an amazing lawn.

@Del why is "not grafted" disappointing?

@kbguess From what I understand grafted maples are generally stronger and more vigorous growers, depending on the rootstock.
I would imagine that Mystic Jewel is probably micropropagated in Holland. My plant does does look very healthy with plenty of growth.

My Mystic jewel is not grafted either, but as it looks a strong green palmatum, all should be fine. It is the more delicate varieties that need a strong understock. Much like Atropurpureum is on it's own roots and often used as a good rootstock.

@Del I was thinking that it is looking pretty vigorous on its own roots.
