Just checked Hippopotering website and nothing to say they are closed.
I have a replacement Higasayama in the post to me from Willowbridge plants, so nurseries are sending orders out.

    Fingers crossed.

Btw 16 degrees here today, maples looked very happy, buds swelling Hope to post some pics soon.

It has been glorious here in Oxford today too. Fingers and toes are crossed for the delivery.

I just tried to check out Willowbridge but couldn't find a link to their website. Do you buy from them through ebay?

Yes I do , I have purchased from them before and been very pleased with the quality. They do supply small grafts, but you can bring them on yourself.

Thanks for that. I'll take a look. Have you ever used Acers Direct? I found them very helpful. They operate out of two different nurseries in Gloucestershire. Leaf Creative designs and Howle Hill Nursery. They dont ship plants out but one of the guys there dropped off an order to me as he was visiting someone nearby. I was so impressed that I arranged to visit both their sites and purchased another half a dozen plants. Hopefully they will remain strong and healthy.

Luke strangely enough both my aka shigatatsu sawa and kasagi yama both came from Pat well over eight years ago now , yes keep them in the shade especially aka this will suffer in the sun. The kasagi yama i have just re potted and it's now in a 45ltr container and the aka was root pruned and re potted into a 30ltr both are in the same spot back of the house and they love it. The aka will give you a stunning red fall colour which will take some beating, added pics of fall and spring.

No haven't used them, but sounds like a good experience you had. This forum is so useful for recommendations of suppliers.

Pat from Hippo sent out about when the nursery would reopen and start shipping, but I can't find it. I think it may have been beginning of April. I remember they are currently closed to the public but I think (?) open by appointment if you call.

Here are a couple of pictures of A. triflorum, the Shaggy Bark or Three Flower Maple, from today. Stunning when flowering but rather pointillist so difficult to photograph!

For those of you who haven't heard, there will be a severe frost tonight in the UK in case you haven't covered your maples. Looking forward to more lovely Spring photos.

Hi Luke, Put them as close to your house wall as possible. The heat from the bricks will give some protection. Fingers crossed for you

Mine have been out in the glorious sun today and were all sharply returned to the workshop this evening , thankfully the ones which are still outside are a long way off the leaf breaking stage so they will be fine at present.

Got a few babies out in the sun today. Still got winter jackets on just in case. They are Azuma Murasaki, Momoiro Koyasan, Ueno Yamaha, Edna Bergman.
They are starting to wake up

It seems you do have a micro-climate there.
I must be at least 500 miles south of where you are and I have no greenhouse, but my "Momo" has been in full leaves for a week (and we had temps below zero in the past few days)

Hi AlainK, I think your right, another on this forum is only 16 miles from me and his our so more advanced than mine. He is nearer the sea though. But they are all worth the wait. Just put them undercover again as they were getting a little chilly !!!!!!
