BLE ID from Van.Isl.

    I should know these as they look very familiar. Two BLE's (Broad Leaf Evergreen) from zone 8 Vancouver Island.

    First one appears to be in bud. Second one has very pronounced leaf veins.

    1. maybe Umbellularia californica
    2. I was kind of thinking Heptacodium, but no, looks more like Cinnamomum.

    Agree with Eric's identifications. The Oregon myrtle is going to get hugely larger than it is now, the other may freeze out at some point.

    1. Sorry should have got Umbellularia californica we used to grow it

    There's ~250 species of Cinnamomum, I'd be inclined to suspect this is one other than the rather tender C. camphorum.

    I wondered the same. I did check around at ground level for an ID tag, but didn't see anything. At least I now know the genus.
