Reminds me of the way Sideroxylon flowers cluster. Or perhaps a Chrysophyllum.

Many thanks for your suggestions teague.
I have had a look at both but am unable to find a match.
I think the hunt goes on.

I am being told it is Casearia (Salicaceae). Not a lot of photos online unfortunately.

Thank you teague for this suggestion.

Trouble is my plant has just 5 stamen..(5 petals)..see close up below.

All the Casearia flowers on line have multiple stamens.

    casearia flowers - Google Search:

Sorry I think the search goes on.

    Update......Latest.....Hot of the forum!
On another forum I have just been told by GreenTara18".. from Russia, Moscow that it is Acnistus arborescens.
It looks a perfect match...and is found in Costa Rica.

    Acnistus arborescens - Wikipedia

Quote......Acnistus arborescens is a species of flowering plant – the single species in the monotypic genus Acnistus, belonging to the Nightshade family Solanaceae. Common names include gallinero ( = 'henhouse' ), mata-gallina ( = 'chicken-killer' ), fruta-de-sabiá ( = 'thrush-fruit' ), hollowheart, wild tobacco, siyou, bastard sirio, galán arbóreo, tabaco de monte ( = 'mountain tobacco' ), nigüito, marieneira, güitite, and tabak djab ( = 'devil's tobacco' )"

I am happy to have it solved!

I am thrilled that you were trying to id this for me.
    Much appreciated.
I have the feeling that GreenTara18".. from Russia, Moscow is another Lila, or Tyrlych or Ron.
I never even thought of Solanaceae.....Duh!
    Still learning!
Just wish I could remember the names..remember what plants look like and often exactly where I have seen them...but names...err no chance.

Please can you try the 5 red berries.
    That is bugging me.
    Cheers
