Went to the Sakura days fair today and spoke with one of the ladies at the VCBF booth and she said I should post on here for help identifying this tree. So this tree has been in my parents' front yard since before they moved here. It started blooming back around the week of March 30th. The flowers are starting to die now but they're still beautiful. So if anyone can help me identify it. That would be great. (I love the tree and would like to get my own in the future.) If you need more photos. I'll gladly take more. :)
It's 'Kiku-shidare-zakura', and it looks pretty healthy, which is not usually the case for that cultivar. It's not one that we'd recommend, but obviously some of them do live more than five years. You can see that it has a thick trunk on which are grafted the skinny branches, which leaves a lot of room for disease to get in. And the tightly-packed chrysanthemum-like flowers hold moisture, also encouraging disease. Your parents should be very pleased that they've managed to keep this one looking nice. You're welcome to add it to our map at Neighbourhood Maps.
I think this is Kiku-shidare-zakura what means weeping(shidare) sakura with flowers like chrysanthemum(kiku)
Thank you so much!! And my mom prunes the tree every year but honestly they don't do much to it. I know the tree has been there for over 27 years. But many thanks!! :) [Edited by wcutler 2016apr11] Yen has added this to the festival map, with a comment that her mother says the tree is over 35 years old. And that the flowers are now dying but still a vibrant pink. So see it while you can!

O-yama-zakura (Sargent cherry)? Or Sargent hybrid? Of course you don't know if the buds are sticky. 'Rancho' are really pink.
