I have a fairly large Styrax obassia which has an infestation of Granulate Ambrosia Beetle. The leaves on the lower branches started to wilt during the past week and I discovered the whitish, toothpick-like things sticking out from the trunk. I took a sample to a local nursery where I found out what the culprit was. I have a collection of Japanese maples, several of which are in close proximity to the Styrax. From what I've read, it seems that the best solution is to remove the Styrax and have it burned and keep a close watch on the trees nearby.

Does anyone have experience with dealing with this pest?

    Thanks very much,
    Samara

Are you on any of the Japanese maple Facebook groups? Several of the people in the Japanese Maples and Conifers group have direct experience with this and can give you advice.
