This is an interesting variegated sieboldianum that I received in 2010 from All Things Acer. The Checklist of Maple Cultivars has this as a 2006 introduction from Japan. I have this planted in full sun (in NJ) in the ground and in a pot in a shaded area and it is doing well in both locations.

Very nice variegation, I like it! Since it's hard to tell from the pictures, approximately how big are the leaves? What's the typical growth habit on this cultivar?

I would say that the leaf size is in the medium range for sieboldianum leaves. The plant tag in the attached picture is 3.5 inches wide for reference. I think that this will be a small tree and appears to be a slow grower. My first plant in the ground was a favorite of the rabbits and was cut back the first winter. I have replaced it with a larger one and hope the cats will keep the pests away this winter.

Very cool tree. It seems like one worth owning. By the way, I like your ID tags. They are very clear and easy to read, without being too big or distracting.

My new tree from Diana at Topiary Gardens - can't wait to see the leaves, hopefully the Kansas summer doesn't stress it too badly.

Andrea, I have mine in mostly shade. Planted early this spring and had about 1/3 eaten by deer. New leaves came out from the eaten branches but show no color and little verigation. Thinking of moving it to a much sunnier location. Your suggestion?

Geezer, mine is currently getting about 4-5 hours direct morning sun, then full shade after, and seems to be doing well - no burn has been noticed so far. Hope this helps!!

Can someone suggest where to purchase or order this tree in Ottawa/Canada?
Is it grown from seed or graft onto a root stock?
Such a unique and beautiful fall color. Thanks so much!

Never from seed, usually grafted but perhaps rarely a rooted cutting. Sorry can't suggest where to get hold of one.

Planted two months ago from a nursery pot. Surprisingly sun tolerant for a variegated species. Mostly un-scorched leaves despite receiving full afternoon sun, though the variegation has faded.

This pic is of @NJACER 'Kumoi nishiki' on 11/5/22. This tree looked amazing! It's in the ground and is in full sun.
