Lovely. Wow. And that forest makes quite the backdrop. What are #4, #5, and #15?

    Re: October color

I need to find out what maple #4 is next time I am out there (the yellow tree is Ginkgo biloba), but #5 is Acer triflorum and #15 is Acer palmatum 'Seiryu'.

    Re: October color

Very fine pics, we more appreciate . Thanks.
A particular interest for 19/19, so many aconitifolium as soil covering, what idea... and that sumptuousness 7/19 .
In South-Ouest of France A.P hasn't turned colours yet. Only Freeman Maple always light-red in end of september (with sun and soil very dry).

    Enjoy this autumn

    Re: October color

    Glad you enjoyed the photos.

7/19 is Acer palmatum 'Waterfall'. The tree was planted in 1974, but I don't know how large or old it was at the time of installation.

19/19 is a very low grafted Acer japonicum 'Green Cascade'. Makes sense, because the one in my collection has branches that will only grow horizontal.

My garden still has another week or two before the colors are abundant and bright. Here are a couple pictures of the front yard from this morning.

    Re: October color

A few more from yesterday... my JM obsession is back full-force now that the fall colors are here... in the past week I've ordered four more. Just a couple weeks ago I was thinking "I can wait to order until the spring...."

Nice pictures JT1, thanks for sharing. What cultivar is the red tree in the pic with the file name PA158915.jpg?

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures!

That is the largest Acer palmatum 'Kamagata' I've ever seen. The tree is in a 45 gallon pot and its over 12' tall.

They acquired it back in the early 80's as a 3 gallon pot from Buchholz Nursery. This was back when you could pick and choose their 3 gallon size maples, unlike today where you have to order 25 or more and you get what ever they send you.

    Re: October color

Slowly starting, many of my trees still showing little to no signs of changing yet. Shinju is just lovely, with the peachy tones, Fjellheim is getting more and more yellow, as is Tsukushigata, Seiryu is gorgeous with the golds and reds, and Kawaii is nearly leafless already - definitely the earliest and fastest of my trees.

    Re: October color

The Seriyu, Red Dragon, Tamukeyama, and Emperor I still have their leaves and colors, but everything else is dropping them. The Capercis Dwarf is still green! Two of the prettiest shows this year came from the Orangeloa and the hybrid North Wind from Iseli Nursery. The North Wind was green and yellow for a while (pictured below), then turned a very lovely bright yellow with flushes of red. I missed taking photos of it in that phase, unfortunately, but you can see an example of one of the red/yellow leaves in the leaf collection photo up above. I'm very happy with the North Wind... it was stunning this spring, too.

I sowed some Acer buergerianum in the spring of 1913. This year, I repotted some of them in small plastic pots, but I had so many, I took some of them and put them in a shallow bonsai pot: wonderful colours. I have a couple in the ground, they are still green.
